Why Liturgy Was Left Out at the Consistory

Cardinal Jean-Marc Aveline of Marseille, France, told French daily Le Figaro on June 25 why liturgy was left off the agenda for the June consistory.
Recalling the January consistory, where he served as secretary of one of the French-speaking discussion groups, Aveline said: "At that table, I voted in favor of discussing the liturgy—but I was the only one."
The other French-speaking cardinals in his group came from different countries and did not regard liturgy as a priority.
According to Aveline, a similar pattern emerged in many other discussion groups. As a result, the liturgical question received the fewest votes and was not included among the topics for the June consistory.

Soccer in Front of the Altar. Worse than Germany: On June 21, the parish priest of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe Reina del Clero in Mexico City invited fathers to celebrate Father’s Day by playing soccer inside the church’s nave around the 12:00 Eucharist. Wearing liturgical vestments, the priest also took part in the game. A goal was placed directly in front of the altar, and the fathers took turns shooting while parishioners applauded.

Insanity has no limits. Entertainment in stead of sacrality and holiness. The priest may fill his church that way, but heaven remains empty. How sad.

Vatican Appeal Court Upholds Conviction of Becciu Accuser: The Vatican Court of Appeal has upheld the conviction of Nicola Giampaolo for slandering Cardinal Angelo Becciu over his role at the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints. The ruling confirms the Vatican Tribunal's October 2025 judgment, leaving Giampaolo's three-and-a-half-year prison sentence and damages in place. The case stemmed from Giampaolo's claims on the Italian TV program Report that money had been requested to advance the beatification cause of former Italian Prime Minister and personal friend of Pope Paul VI, Aldo Moro. The Vatican has now definitively ruled those allegations were criminal slander.

Cardinal Grech: "New Stage in Reception of Vatican II"

The implementation phase of the synod “will mark a new stage in the reception of the Second Vatican Council,” Cardinal Mario Grech warned the consistory on Saturday. He is a 🌈 Cardinal and the Vatican's Secretary of the Synod.
His lengthy speech, which was around 3,000 words long, was published on Zenit.org. Much of it was repetitive, focusing on buzzwords such as listening, discernment, communion, participation, the 'exchange of gifts', implementation, and 'conversation in the Spirit'.
In terms of density of ideas, the speech was low.
The essential message was
• the Synod is not over.
• implementation is the real work.
• synodality should become part of the Church's ordinary life.
• this is the next stage of Vatican II.
Two key sentences were:
"The discernment of the signs of the times, ecumenical and interreligious dialogue, and the commitment to justice and peace become measures of the Church's diakonia."
"In this way, the implementation phase becomes a new stage in the reception …Zvimwe

Two Mexican Bishops Celebrate Homosexual Eucharist. Worse than Germany: On Pentecost Sunday, 24 May, Bishop Hilario González García, 61, of Saltillo, Mexico, celebrated a Eucharist with homosexual groups at San Esteban Parish as part of the city's 'Pride March'. Bishop Emeritus Raúl Vera concelebrated the Eucharist. Homosexuals participated in the readings, music and offertory. A rainbow flag was displayed near the lectern.

They won’t get excommunicated, actually, nothing will happen to them... then turn around the FSSPX will get it instead.

Canon Lawyer, Professor Michael J. Mazza: “Over 80% of the nation’s priests regularly fear being falsely accused, largely because of the lack of due process they encounter the instant an allegation is made against them. Nearly the same percentage of surveyed priests suggested that their bishop would be one of the LAST people they would ever go to for help if they encountered a problem in their ministry. That is a particularly worrisome attitude given the close bond that is supposed to link bishops and priests in the service of the people of God.”

Opinion: The U.S. bishops missed an opportunity with changes to the “Charter”

Bishop Barry Knestout of Richmond, Virginia, chair of the U.S. bishops’ Committee on the Protection of Children and Young People, proposes revised procedures to address allegations of sexual abuse of minors by Catholic clergy in Orlando, Florida, on June 11, 2026. (Credit: USCCB/YouTube/screenshot)
The internet buzzed after the U.S. bishops consecrated the nation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Orlando on Thursday. June 11. Catholic news outlets and bloggers mostly raved enthusiastically, while the secular media propagated slightly more restrained summaries. Even President Trump weighed in, saying the action was a “poignant reminder that America has always been guided by the loving hand of God.”
Kudos to the bishops for turning to God for help in troubling times for this nation. But we would do well to consider the many places in Scripture where the prayers of those who ignore the basic demands of justice are not heard by a Lord who hears the cries of the marginalized and forgotten. …

✝️June 28th - Saint of the Day: Saint John Southworth, Priest & Martyr✝️
⚔️ The Priest Who Refused to Stop Being a Priest — Even When It Cost Him Everything In 1654, a sixty-two-year-old Catholic priest stood at the Tyburn gallows in London. 😶 His judge had wept while reading the sentence. The foreign ambassadors in the room had begged him to deny being a priest. There was barely enough evidence to convict him. He refused to lie. 🕯️ Saint John Southworth had already been arrested four times, deported three times, and had voluntarily walked back into a plague-ravaged London — at a time when being a Catholic priest on English soil was legally a capital offense. 😮 He served the dying. He raised money for plague victims' families. He heard the final confession of his martyred friend through a prison window. 🙏 And when they finally executed him, his body was quartered, purchased by the Spanish Ambassador for forty guineas, stitched back together, sent to France, and then buried in an …Zvimwe

John Southworth stammte aus einer Gutbesitzer-Familie, die seit dem 14. Jahrhundert in Samlesbury lebte.

Pope Leo opened the 2-day consistory this morning

He especially asked cdls for their advice, pastoral experience to help him as Pope
Counts on them to “discern what the Holy Spirit is saying today to the Church”
Asks for their “honesty, frankness and realism in a spirit of communion… & patience.”
Notes the consistory structure of round tables vs open discussion “is not normal for many of you” but asks them to engage in it as an exercise of synodality and communion. Background details on Consistory on Per Mariam

RILEY GAINES ON BIRTH CONTROL: “So I was on birth control in college, but only because — as a swimmer — you can imagine it’s not exactly comfortable to bleed in a sport like that. The bathing suits are pretty revealing, and we’re in the water six hours a day. “I got on it specifically to stop my period entirely. Looking back now at 26, if I could go back and tell 18- or 19-year-old me anything, I would absolutely tell her not to do that. “I just had a pretty comprehensive health screening — blood work, cancer screenings, the works. One of the only things the doctors flagged was that I had super low bone density. I thought that was strange because I lift weights, which should promote bone growth. So I asked the doctor what could cause it. “She asked if I had been on birth control that let me skip my periods. When I said yes, she told me that was likely the cause. She said it’s good that we caught it now — I’m young and healthy, so I can work to build it back up — but if I had stayed …Zvimwe
