Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa of Jerusalem has expressed his condolences following the deaths of two Palestinian Christian women in an Israeli air strike on Gaza City. “With deep sorrow and grief,” the Patriarch mourned Maysa Khader Ibrahim Abu Daoud (Ayyad) and Mary Hafez Michel Najjar (Abu Daoud). The two women, who were mother and daughter, were killed in the strike on the night of October 2. On behalf of the Patriarchate, its clergy and faithful, Cardinal Pizzaballa extended his “deepest condolences” to the families of the two women and to Gaza’s Christian community. He prayed that their relatives and loved ones might find comfort, strength and hope in their loss. The funeral was held on Saturday, October 3, at the Greek Orthodox church St. Porphyrius in Gaza. Pascua Taqui tribe member Richard Duran led the congregation of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Durham in a “smudging” ceremony in July. Smudging is a shamanic ritual that involves burning herbs and resins to “cleanse” a space of negative energy.

Prítomný bol aj biskup Luis Rafael Zarama, ktorý vyvolal smiech, keď povedal, že bude tancovať srdcom, nie telom, pretože tanec na hudbu ho môže frustrovať.
