Veni Creator Spiritus is a revered Latin hymn attributed to Rabanus Maurus, a 9th-century Frankish Benedictine monk. This ancient invocation of the Holy Spirit holds particular significance today (January 1), the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God and the beginning of the new year. In Catholic tradition, reciting or singing the hymn publicly on New Year’s serves as a prayer for the Holy Spirit’s guidance and blessings in the year ahead. It also grants a plenary indulgence under the usual conditions: sacramental confession, Eucharistic Communion, prayer for the Pope’s intentions, and complete detachment from sin.

Pope Leo at Angelus: “Unfortunately, the world always has its ‘Herods,’ its myths of success at any cost, of unscrupulous power, of empty and superficial well-being, and it often pays the price in the form of loneliness, despair, divisions and conflicts.”
“It is precisely this hardness of heart, however, that further highlights the value of the presence and mission of the Holy Family. In the despotic and greedy world represented by the tyrant, it is the birthplace and cradle of the only possible answer of salvation…”
Vatican expert Msgr. Maurizio Gronchi clarifies: The title “Co-Redemptrix” for Mary is not absolutely prohibited. It will no longer appear in official documents or liturgy, but may be used in popular piety when properly understood.

The article argues that Christmas cannot be separated from the Cross. Bishop Joseph E. Strickland emphasizes that the joy of Christ’s birth is real and profound, but it is not sentimental or comfortable—it already contains the reality of sacrifice, suffering, and redemption. Jesus did not come to make life easier, but to save humanity, and salvation always has a cost. By reflecting on figures like Saint Stephen, Saint John, and the Holy Innocents, the article shows that from the very beginning, Christ’s coming provoked sacrifice, fidelity, and even martyrdom. Their lives reveal that true Christian joy is not avoidance of suffering but faithfulness to Christ, even when it demands everything. Strickland warns that modern Christianity is tempted to soften or avoid the Cross in favor of comfort, consensus, or emotional reassurance. But when the Cross is removed, faith becomes shallow and powerless. True Christmas joy flows from accepting the full meaning of the Incarnation: following …More

Greetings and Merry Christmas, fellow Catholics. Today, before I go to Midnight Mass to celebrate in a few hours, I'd like to share a review I did of the first two volumes of Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich's visions. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did.
Ahead of celebrating Midnight Mass, Pope Leo XIV ventured into St. Peter’s Square to greet and bless the hundreds of pilgrims who could not fit into the Basilica for Mass and are braving the wind and heavy rain, saying “I admire and respect and thank you for your courage, and your wanting to be here this evening!”
The Lord is Nigh 1. "This day you shall know that the Lord will come and save us, and in the morning you shall see His glory." The motif of the liturgy of the day is expectation. Tomorrow is to be the day of fulfillment. 2. Tomorrow you shall see His glory with your bodily eyes, in reality and truth. "You shall find the infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and laid in a manger" (Luke 2:12). Near His crib, in silent prayer and adoration, you will find His virgin mother. There, too, you will find, silent and absorbed in prayer, the blessed Joseph. Silent night, holy night! There you will find the child, nestling in the forbidding straw, deprived of all comforts which an ungrateful people might have given Him. "He came unto His own, and His own received Him not" (John 1: 11). We shall see Him also with the eyes of faith. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.... And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us (and we saw His glory, the glory as it …More
