Dec. 31 Saint Sylvester Pope. breski1December 31, 2009 Sylvester was pope from 31 January 314 to 31 December 335, succeeding Pope Miltiades. He filled the See of Rome at a very important era in the history of the Catholic Church, but very little is known of him.[3] The accounts of the papacy of Pope Sylvester I preserved in the Liber Pontificalis (7th or 8th century) are little else than a record of the gifts said to have been conferred on the Church by Emperor Constantine I,[4] but it does say that he was the son of a Roman named Rufinus.[5] During his pontificate were built the great churches founded at Rome by Constantine, e.g. the Basilica of St. John Lateran, Santa Croce in Gerusalemme, St. Peter's Basilica, and several cemeterial churches over the graves of martyrs.[5][6] Saint Sylvester did not himself attend the First Council of Nicaea in 325, but he was represented by two legates, Vitus and Vincentius, and he approved the council's decision. December 31 Meditation Of the end of the year and the brevity of life. POINT ONE. Consider Christ our Lord newborn and crying in the manger; and if you find out the causes why he cries, you will find that they are not so much the cold he suffers and the inclement weather, as your carelessness and the forgetfulness with which you live of your good, and that he comes into the …níos mó

A village of 150 people in Corsica has raised €1.1 million to help restore the Caccia convent in Castifao, Haute-Corse. The 16 century site has been closed to the public since 2021 due to serious disrepair. The state's contribution was relatively small. The restoration will be funded by the Collectivité de Corse (80%), the French state (10%), and donations from residents, nearby communities, and private donors. Mayor François Orsini led the project with support from the Fondation du Patrimoine and the Castifau et Moltifau association. Restoration work is expected to begin in early 2026, with the aim of reopening the site to the public.

September 2025 The Nazi book burnings in Germany and Austria in the 1930s targeted books that the German Student Union deemed subversive. In Ray Bradbury’s 1953 novel Fahrenheit 451, the firemen burn subversive books. In 2019, the school district, Conseil scolaire catholique (CSC) Providence, which operates as the French language school board for southwestern Ontario, burned classic books and used the ashes as fertilizer in the “spirit of reconciliation.” In 2025, I was physically banned from my old school, WJ Mouat Secondary, by the Abbotsford School District, because I went there to launch my book, The Scarlet Lesson. The operating principle in the instances above is that books are a danger. But burning books or banishing authors is like shooting the messenger: The message doesn’t perish. As the ancient Greek dramatist Sophocles is often purported to have said,“You can kill a man, but you can’t kill an idea”. My idea was that Christian teachers didn’t murder students in Indian …
If you want to get an idea of everything that is wrong with Canada today, what has sadly happened to Jim McMurtry is an example. He has been fired and cancelled for telling the truth. Thank God for courageous people like him.

Secularism is the Canadian state religion: Quebec’s Secularism Minister, Jean-François Roberge, introduced Bill C-9, which aims to strengthen secularism in the province. He said during Advent: "We can wish someone merry Christmas. We can sing Christmas songs. This is nothing but tradition. But we shouldn’t make any references to the birth of baby Jesus." Talk of Santa Claus and elves is allowed. Religious symbols are banned for people working in education, daycare centres and universities.
