Honest question; does anyone know what happens if a pope suffers from alzheimer’s or dementia? Does the Church have an answer for that?
Indeed, logic does dictate that recourse, but it seems the Church has no formal protocol to cover that eventuality. For instance, if a Pope goes insane while in office, there would be people claiming that no one could remove him because no one can judge a pope. In that instance, if a lunatic is running things, is true obedience still owed to him? I hope that never happens but it is interesting that there are no safeguards in place to prevent a man from holding office after losing his mind.
