Cardinal Zuppi backs teaching Islam in Catholic religion classes. On October 21, Cardinal Matteo Zuppi of Bologna, the president of the Italian bishops, presented 11 educational materials about Islam for use in Catholic religion classes in Italian schools. Zuppi warned of "dangerous newspaper headlines, dangerous in terms of Islamophobia, dangerous." "The future is dialogue," he emphasized. "The opposite also applies: if you don't talk, you fall behind. he world moves forward, and you're the one who falls behind, right?" Speaking about religion classes, he said that "we must not teach catechism," adding: "This is very important. It's not that someone else tells us this; we ourselves say that catechism must not be taught." The materials, titled "Sheets for Understanding Islam", were developed by a team composed of equal numbers of Christian and Muslim scholars.

UK Home Office links "Christian extremism" to "traditionalism". Attachment to traditional Christian values and opposition to multiculturalism, immigration and liberalism are identified as features associated with “Christian extremism” in a leaked British Home Office report exposed by journalist Steven Edginton on Substack on October 22. The document, produced by the Home Office's Research, Information and Communications Unit (RICU), states: “Traditionalism is highly valued within ChE [Christian Extremist] ideology.” It also proposes government partnerships with churches to promote “theological resilience” against the use of Christian teachings to justify hatred or violence. The report was produced to inform Britain's Prevent counter-radicalisation programme. Remarkably, the report itself acknowledges that the threat of violence from “Christian extremists” in Britain is “low” and that no terrorist attack in the UK has been assessed as having Christian extremism as its primary motivating …More

The Summorum Pontificum pilgrimage will tomorrow be barred from entering St. Peter’s Basilica, said Christian Marquant, president of the French organization Paix Liturgique, at today’s event at the Augustinianum in Rome. He added that Pope Leo XIV had described last year’s Mass at St. Peter’s as “instrumentalized,” reports MessaInLatino.it. This Papal remark was made during a December audience in which Bishop Athanasius Schneider raised the widespread desire for the Roman Rite with Leo XIV. “Perhaps he was annoyed by the large turnout or the extensive press coverage,” Marquant speculated. “And indeed, this year permission to celebrate Mass at St. Peter’s has been refused!” Marquant then announced breaking news: “Not only have we been denied permission to celebrate Mass, but we have even been barred from entering the basilica, without so much as a semblance of justification. We shall see what happens tomorrow.” The decision was communicated in recent days in a letter from the Vatican …More
