Journalist Peter Laffin criticizes the Trump administration and JD Vance for what he calls a false pro-life image, arguing that the FDA’s approval of a generic version of mifepristone (the abortion pill) exposes their inconsistency on abortion policy.
Laffin claims the FDA approved the drug before completing its own safety review, which was initiated after a study found that 11% of users experienced serious adverse events. He questions why the agency proceeded despite these safety concerns.
He argues that the approval contradicts the administration’s “states’ rights” position, since abortion pills can now be shipped across state lines, undermining state-level restrictions. Laffin also accuses the FDA and HHS of aiding blue-state governors like Gavin Newsom and Kathy Hochul in facilitating interstate mail-order abortions under legal “shield laws.”
Further, Laffin condemns pro-life organizations and Christian media for giving Trump and Vance unquestioning support despite policies that, in his view, expand access to abortion. He contrasts them with groups like Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America and Live Action, which he says still hold politicians accountable.
He notes Trump has publicly supported access to mifepristone, removed the GOP platform’s call for a constitutional amendment to protect unborn life, and directed the DOJ to defend online and mail distribution of abortion pills. Vance, similarly, has affirmed his support for mifepristone’s legality.
Laffin concludes by labeling the Trump administration the “most anti-life GOP administration since Ford,” accusing it of enabling a national “culture of death” while deceiving the pro-life movement into complacency.
