The Vatican has officially confirmed that Pope Leo XIV will hold an Extraordinary Consistory on January 7-8: The Vatican’s statement: “As announced last November, the Holy Father has convened the first Extraordinary Consistory of His Pontificate, to be held on January 7 and 8, 2026. The meeting will take place over two days and will be characterized by moments of communion and fraternity, as well as times dedicated to reflection, sharing, and prayer. These moments will be oriented toward fostering common discernment and offering support and advice to the Holy Father in the exercise of his exalted and demanding responsibility in governing the universal Church. The Consistory takes place within the context of the life and mission of the Church and seeks to strengthen the communion between the Bishop of Rome and the Cardinals, who are called to collaborate in a special way in the care for the good of the universal Church."
Papst Leo hat alle Kardinäle zu einem Konsistorium vom 7. bis 8. Januar nach Rom einberufen. In der Erklärung des Vatikans heißt es: „Das Treffen wird sich über zwei Tage erstrecken und von Momenten der Gemeinschaft und Brüderlichkeit sowie von Zeiten der Besinnung, des Austauschs und des Gebets geprägt sein“ und soll „dem Heiligen Vater Unterstützung und Rat bei der Ausübung seiner hohen und gewichtigen Verantwortung in der Leitung der Weltkirche bieten“. Das Konsistorium steht im Kontext des Lebens und der Mission der Kirche und soll die Gemeinschaft zwischen dem Bischof von Rom und den Kardinälen stärken, die auf besondere Weise zur Sorge um das Wohl der Weltkirche berufen sind.“
