Bishop Schneider: Charismatic Movements Like "Spiritual Drugs"
Rev Zarraute mentioned that these moments are achieve "great success" in mobilising well-intentioned young people, but lead them to "a terrible sentimentalism, where faith and reason are replaced by emotion".
Monsignor Schneider compared these phenomena to "a kind of spiritual drug" calling it "a cheap form of Christianity" without deep foundations: "It is a pastoral method built on sand".
Regarding the crowds that these groups attract, Bishop Schneider said that God "is not enthusiastic about numbers".
He encourages a pastoral method that is "solid, calm, balanced and supernatural as the Church has been doing for 2000 years".
