The Peruvian naturalization file of Robert Prevost preserves a handwritten letter in which he expressed his desire to remain in Peru “for the rest of my life.” The documentation, held by Peru’s National Superintendency of Migration, records the process through which the American-born Prevost obtained Peruvian citizenship in 2015 after years of pastoral work in the country. According to TVPerú Noticias, Prevost submitted his application in 2015 and addressed a handwritten letter to then-President Ollanta Humala explaining his ties to Peru and formally requesting nationality. As part of the naturalization process, Prevost also underwent an examination on Peruvian history, geography and culture. Héctor Pérez, head of Migraciones’ General Archive, said the future pope achieved an exceptionally high result. The essential details of Prevost’s naturalization are confirmed by official Peruvian records. Supreme Resolution No. 157-2015-IN, dated August 17, 2015, states that Prevost applied for …Zaidi

British Catholic Prime Minister Andy Burnham is "a non-Catholic Catholic kind of guy", UK-based writer Steven Tucker argues on August 7 on CrisisMagazine.com. Burnham has absorbed a specifically left-wing, Liverpool strain of Catholic Social Teaching that is socialism in disguise. Main points: Archbishop Derek Worlock (1920–1996) of Liverpool had a significant influence on Burnham during his youth. As an altar boy, Burnham played tapes of Worlock's sermons in which he criticised the central government for neglecting the North West. Burnham considered the "vast majority" of staff at his Catholic schools to be Labour supporters who encouraged him in that direction. In 2012, Burnham said that "what I used to read in the catechism - the realisation of it on Earth - was the Labour Party'. He has campaigned, voted and marched for homosex "marriage", homosex adoption and gender policies. He has even supported male access to women's facilities. While mayor of Manchester, he took part in a city …Zaidi
Trump and his gang of evil doers will pay dearly for every child and newborn who dies in hospitals who need special care. For the children who are harmed one way or another. For those they bombed and killed. And all the innocent civilians that have died or been murdered, in one country or another. Their blood will be on their hands. They will enjoy it all now but pay dearly later.
Cardinal Matteo Zuppi of Bologna and president of the Italian Bishops’ Conference attended the private funeral of Italian singer-songwriter Francesco Guccini in Pavana on Saturday. He delivered an address, published on Avvenire.it (August 8), in which he practically canonized the self-described agnostic. Guccini, 86, had described himself as an “agnostic possibilist.” Zuppi, who was his friend, recalled that the singer had once told him he wanted the cardinal present at his funeral. Addressing Guccini directly, Cardinal Zuppi imagined what the deceased might now be seeing: “We do not know precisely … what you see: the fullness of that light which, in reality, you had already sensed from here and which you were able to glimpse in the poignant and infinite beauty of life.” Cardinal Zuppi portrayed Guccini’s agnostic doubt positively, as an honest search for truth. “Doubt was your way of standing before things without cheating, with integrity,” he said. “You never stopped asking and listening.” …Zaidi
On 4 August, Peruvian essayist Santiago Roncagliolo, in a lengthy interview with Daniel Titinger, described Leo XIV's behind-the-scenes methods as Bishop Robert Prevost of Chiclayo, Peru. According to Roncagliolo, Prevost quietly built coalitions, divided opponents, managed information, and preferred discreet political action to public confrontation. Roncagliolo is broadly sympathetic to Leo XIV. "As a character to narrate he was a nightmare. He has no phrases, no scenes, no gestures. You ask the sources: 'What did Prevost say at that dramatic and crucial moment?' 'Nothing, I think'.'" Weakening Opus Dei from Within Interviewer Titinger described Prevost as "a Trojan horse": "He understands the adversary, doesn't confront him openly, but disables him from within. He's always quiet; that's why he wasn't well known." Roncagliolo does not reject the characterization and discusses Prevost in those terms. He also explains how Prevost weakened Opus Dei: "Prevost divided Opus Dei. He offered …Zaidi

The Russian Orthodox Church has revoked its June decision assigning its former foreign affairs chief to two Russian Orthodox parishes in southern Brazil. Instead, Patriarch Kirill has assigned Hilarion, 60, to the Exaltation of the Cross Monastery near Moscow. The latest reassignment comes after a series of controversies involving the once-powerful church diplomat. In May, Czech police detained Hilarion in Karlovy Vary after searching his car and finding four containers containing a white powder. Czech authorities later identified the substance as cocaine. Hilarion was released without charges after two days, while the investigation remains ongoing. He denies any involvement and says he was the victim of a provocation. Hilarion had already been removed as Metropolitan of Budapest and Hungary in 2024 after a former male assistant accused him of homosexual misconduct and financial impropriety. The allegations were accompanied by claims that Hilarion lived a lavish lifestyle and accumulated …Zaidi

On 6 August, Italian journalist David Murgia published the results of a confidential 2016 consultation within the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith concerning the alleged apparitions at Medjugorje on IlSegnoDiGiona.com. Two Thirds of the Congregation said Medjugorje was NOT Supernatural According to Murgia, 33 participants were asked to provide written opinions, or 'vota', on the Medjugorje phenomenon. Murgia reports the following results (17 September 2016): 21 participants chose 'constat de non supernaturalitate' (not of supernatural origin). 9 participants chose 'constat de supernaturalitate' (supernatural origin). 3 chose 'non constat de supernaturalitate' (the supernatural character has not been established). This corresponds to approximately 63.6 per cent for 'not supernatural', while only nine voted in favour. The Trump administration is crafting a new nuclear strategy aimed at giving the president more “credible” options to use short-range tactical nuclear weapons in a regional conflict with Russia or China, NBC reports. The doctrine is being shaped by Pentagon policy chief Elbridge Colby, a long-time advocate of expanding the role of tactical nuclear weapons. His argument is that smaller, lower-yield warheads could be used against battlefield forces and military targets rather than cities. That distinction sounds reassuring until you get to the obvious problem: once nuclear weapons are treated as usable battlefield tools, the line separating conventional war from nuclear war gets much thinner. Critics warn that broadening their role could normalize nuclear weapons use and lower the threshold for escalation. China has accused Washington of "normalizing" nuclear use on the battlefield, warning that the US push for tactical nuclear weapons completely underestimates the risk of retaliation …Zaidi
Oh! So much to say about this beast. So many things I warned about. They either happened, was confirmed by their own forked tongues or in the making now. But I will waste my time because they still defend the beast with the forked tongue. Most of us already know he is a beast with a forked tongue. The rest will have their little bubble burst in their face soon enough.

"FSSPX Confessions Are Valid" - Müller Contradicts Tucho: On July 6, K-TV asked Cardinal Gerhard Müller whether confessions heard by priests of the Priestly Society of Saint Pius X are valid or invalid. Contrary to Cardinal Tucho Fernández, he replied: "The confessions are valid, but illicit. The power to forgive or retain sins is conferred through the sacrament of Holy Orders. Its exercise can only be restricted by the bishop or the Pope, as provided by canon law."

Saint Romanus, Martyr - August 9th SaintoftheDay He said the same thing before the tribunal that he had said everywhere else since his baptism: I am a Christian. He had been a Christian for perhaps one day. It was enough. One day of truth is sufficient for a martyr's crown. He could not understand how a man of flesh and blood could be tortured without opening his mouth to complain. Then he saw the Angel. That is always the order — first the inexplicable endurance, then the supernatural explanation. Faith works the same way. The faithful sins if his neighbor sins — that was Saint Matthias's saying. Romanus saw a neighbor suffering for Christ and could not remain indifferent. He converted on the spot. He was beheaded the next day. His neighbor's martyrdom was his baptism. Grace is contagious. He saw beside the tortured martyr a young man of incomparable grace and beauty wiping away the blood. No one else seemed to see him. That vision cost Romanus his life. He considered it well spent. So …Zaidi
