ST. CATHERINE LABOURÉ
On November 28, the Church honors St. Catherine Laboure, the humble Daughter of Charity to whom Mary appeared, requesting that the Miraculous Medal be stamped so that all who wear it would receive great graces.
Saint Catherine Laboure was born in France on May 2, 1806. She was the ninth of 11 children. Upon her mother’s death, when Catherine was eight years old, the young girl assumed the responsibilities of the household. It was said of her that she was very quiet and practical.
She became a Daughter of Charity, and when she was a novice, at 24 years of age, the Virgin Mary appeared to her for the first time. Later, Mary appeared once again and requested that Catherine have a medal struck portraying Mary just as she appeared.
It took two years before Catherine was able to convince her spiritual director to have the medal struck. Eventually, 2,000 medals were made. Their dispersal was so rapid and effective that it was said to be miraculous itself.
After the visions …More

El Mensaje/The Message of Saint Catherine Laboure.
secinterjmv on Nov 11, 2011 Saint Catherine Zoé Labouré was born in a small village of France in 1806, the daughter of a well-to-do farmer who had at one time wanted to become a priest, and his very Christian wife. Catherine, the ninth of the eleven living children, lost her mother when she was only nine years old and had to abandon school to go to live with an aunt, accompanied by her younger sister. Two years later she was recalled to take charge of the household, because the older children had all left, one to become a Sister of Saint Vincent de Paul, the others to marry or seek a living elsewhere.

"O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee." This invocation, included in many prayers, was revealed to Catherine Laboure during an apparition of Our Lady on November 27, 1830 in Paris. During vespers in the chapel of the convent of the Sisters of Charity, located on Rue du Bac, France, the young novice saw the Blessed Mother for the second time. The first appearance dates back to the previous July, when the Virgin had confided that she had a difficult mission to accomplish.
Above the altar, two pictures represent two sides of a medal. Catherine Laboure, who was then 24 years, heard the voice of Mary, who told her: "Have a medal struck upon this model. Those who wear it will receive great graces". It was a request reiterated by Our Lady, who would appear again to the sister in December of the same year, again in the chapel of the Rue du Bac.
In 1832, with the permission of the Bishop of Paris, Msgr. de Quellen …More
