Modern Idols, Ancient Warnings
The prophet Zephaniah calls for humility and repentance, warning of the coming “day of the Lord” when God will intervene in human history. This day can be both good and bad, as seen in the destruction of Jerusalem by the Babylonians. The readings emphasize the importance of humility, truth, and goodness, urging us to prepare for Lent by identifying and eliminating idols in our lives and strengthening our prayer life.
