Leo XIV Names Polish Missionary Priest as Bishop of Karaganda (Not Monsignor Schneider)
Today, Leo XIV appointed Monsignor Piotr Pytłowany, 57, as the new Bishop of Karaganda, Kazakhstan. He is a fidei donum missionary priest of the Polish Archdiocese of Przemyśl.
Kazakh Catholicism is small and deeply marked by Soviet persecution, particularly in Karaganda with a strong consciousness of the martyrs. Liturgical practice is pious and Communion in the hand forbidden.
