Conversion is not only a change of mentality, feelings and of will; it finds its fulfillment in performing deeds. This is how much today’s Gospel is teaching us. The invitation to conversion that the Baptist extends is followed right away by questions posed by people wishing to know what conversion entails. Conversion is in works of love, in performing one’s own profession honestly, in respecting others and, especially, in accepting the baptism of Holy Spirit and fire.
La conversione non è soltanto un cambiamento di mentalità, di sentimenti, di volontà; essa trova il suo compimento nell’azione. E’ quanto ci insegna il brano del Vangelo di oggi. All’invito del Battista alla conversione fa subito seguito l’interrogativo del popolo che chiede in che cosa consista la conversione. Essa sta nelle opere dell’amore, nell’esercitare rettamente la propria professione, nel rispetto degli altri e, in particolare, nell’accettare il battesimo di Spirito santo e fuoco.
