True Devotion to Mary I

Need to define a few terms and concepts before considering Mary’s role as mother and queen

Precise doctrinal language, as opposed to relational language Jesus is my BFF, is most charitable with important ideas

  1. Christianity is Trinitarian. It is the Central Mystery. #261 CCC

 Note two different pillars:

1 Those attributes which are distinct to each Person

2 Those attributes which are similar to each Person

God = whole of divine (CCC #253 and following)

Nature Father, Son, Holy Spirit fully possessed by each Person

Father, Son, Holy Spirit are distinct persons of the one God, functioning as full persons

Each Person is Fully and Equally God

Modalism = heresy Father, Son and Holy Spirit one person expressing Himself in different modalities CCC #254

@6:33 Dr. Bruce Ware an analogy with three circles may prove helpful

The Preface on the Most Holy Trinity from the EO Form is a beautiful distillation of the doctrine

O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God; Who, together with Thine only-begotten Son, and the Holy Ghost, art one God, one Lord: not in the oneness of a single Person, but in the Trinity of one substance. For what we believe by Thy revelation of Thy glory, the same do we believe of Thy Son, the same of the Holy Ghost, without difference or separation. So that in confessing the true and everlasting Godhead, distinction in persons, unity in essence, and equality in majesty may be adored.

Human persons myriad in number, intellectually infinite but of the same substance. Infinite in persons, one substance. Ability to have children. Can’t make another person with water, dog, etc..

Human substance Corruptible nature, capable of being transfigured, resurrected, potential for eternal being

Substance of Father Son Holy Spirit is divinity

Number of Persons share divine essence, similar to myriad number of human persons that share of human essence

Analogy breaks down because we are not one, yet. But substance is intended to be one in the divine.
