Unplug

I used to admire people who took on tiny home living, supposedly shedding themselves of things that don't matter, going without, growing their own food, etc. But it occurred to me that likely people don't last very long in these homes and most lack the vision and courage to provide for families in these settings.

And then there's the connectivity. Do you notice the satellite dish on this adorable little cottage? The compact interior comes with a big screen t.v.

There's nothing impressive about hanging out by yourself for a length of time that you choose and staring endlessly at your screens.

What impresses me more is a vision to unplug. Let's start that movement! Let's take long breaks or reduce use of televisions, computers, cell phones, fit bits, all of it. Really, keep (almost) any other luxury you want, especially mixing with others. I'm willing to bet many people couldn't go with zero connectivity for more than a day or so. It's a sad reality. For the sake of ourselves, our children, our families, our friends, and our faith, let's encourage at least cutting back and consider a significant change in our habits. It would be a very blessed Advent preparation for Christmas.

Tiny homes are a reflection of the “me” generation. No kids, no room for guests, living vicariously through the media. It is very sad, really.
We are fortunate to have plenty of extra bedrooms and couches in our meager, very middle class, now empty nest. And even more fortunate to have those rooms filled regularly.More

These are great for a second home get-away cottage or retreat but not as a main homestead.
